Frenship Fifth Graders Attend Tiger Tours at Each Middle School

Heritage Middle School counselor Chelsey Cook explained the purpose of Tiger Tours as a way to introduce fifth graders to the middle school campuses.

"Middle school administration works closely with the elementary schools to plan dates and times that work best for all schools," Cook said. "Principals introduce expectations, staff, and courses offered to them throughout the three years they are with us. Our fine arts directors put in the most work with their current students as they put on a performance so that the fifth graders can see a live version of the classes they will join."

Cook explained that the premise of the event is to help make the incoming middle school students more comfortable for their next school year.

"We hope that it gives the incoming sixth graders a sense of peace about the transition coming in August," Cook said. "We know middle school is very different from elementary, and we want them to feel comfortable with the building and staff."

Cook said her favorite part is to watch the interaction of current students with incoming students.

"Seeing the 5th graders light up when our fine arts programs perform is priceless," Cook said. "They love seeing the community they will eventually become a part of."
